ISU World Synchronized Skating Championship 2008, Papp Laszlo Budapest Sportarena - 28-30/03/2008
The Central Europe Rally, Hungary-Romania, April 2008
The Central Europe Rally, first ever competition of the "Dakar Series", is an off-road rally open to bikes, quad-bikes, cars and trucks. As for all races under the "Dakar Series" label, it has the authority to accommodate the sport's elite drivers, as well as amateurs wishing to pit themselves against a demanding course.
Following a short stay in Budapest, where the teams will be called for technical and administrative checks, on 19 April, then a parade in town, the following day, the competitors will drive towards Romania, where the first competitive special section will be run.
The competition's programme is tough: drivers will be timed each day in one or two competitive special sections, the distance of which is between 60 and 170 km. In Romania, technical ability will be most challenged, on a route sometimes cut by valleys and winding. In Hungary, the parts of the race in forest or in the plains will also demand a keen sense of trajectory. Other parts will invite drivers to push their vehicles to their maximum speeds.
At the finish, at Lake Balaton, after 3,000 km of route, 1,500 km of which comprising timed sections, competitors will be invited to a prize-giving gala.

Budapest Half Marathon
Sep 2008 (annual)
Budapest
The Nike Budapest Half Marathon, like the city's marathon about a month later, was first run in 1984. It follows a scenic route from Pest, over the famous Chain Bridge to Buda, turning under Castle Hill on the west bank of the Danube (Duna), before crossing back over to Pest to end on Olof Palme promenade in City Park. There is usually a field of 6000 runners (including 1000 international entrants), and spectators line the streets to cheer the runners on.
For those who can't quite run the full 21km, there is a 3.5km fun run.
13th K&H Olympic Night Run, 13/09/2008
The Night Run has been held in early September as a farewell to summer since 1996. Its unique nature is provided by the 9 p.m. start time and the night environment. It is a truly enjoyable evening event in floodlit Budapest. The street party and 5 minute firework display make the moments before the starters gun fires even more atmospheric. Seeing the tunnel near the Chain Bridge full of runners is surely the most memorable, yet hair-raising, moment of the race.
Start and finish location: Roosevelt Square, Budapest
Race distance: 6.5 km
Participants: 3500- 4000 runners
Prizes: 1st to 3rd placed men and women
Gift: a t-shirt for all runners bearing the logo of the event
Budapest Marathon
Oct 2008 (annual)
Budapest's Marathon, first held in 1984, follows a scenic route along both banks of the Danube and across its bridges, which separate hilly Buda in the west and the wide boulevards of flat Pest to the east. There is usually a field of 8000 runners, with spectators lining the streets to cheer them on.
For those who can't quite run the full course, there's an option to enter for the shorter runs (including a breakfast run on the day before).
Typically enough, even the most athletic locals can't spend a day devoted to sports without a good dose of culture. In addition to the central sporting event, there's also a full-day series of concerts and entertainment.
