Budapest sport events 2010

Everyone can find their choice of sports in Budapest. The most popular place in Budapest for sports is the Margaret Island - even the Prime Minister of Hungary is often seen jogging on some early mornings with his entourage.

Hungarians have always been avid sportsmen: during the history of the summer Olympics, Hungarians have brought home 460 medals, of which 158 are gold. The top events in which Hungarians have excelled are fencing, swimming, canoeing, wrestling and track & field sports.

Their affinity to water sports is unmistakably due to the presence of the Lake Balaton and the Danube, which have provided ample practice grounds since the beginning of times.

Beside classic sports, recreational modern sports such as bowling, pool billiard, darts, go-carting, wakeboarding and squash are very popular in Budapest, and extreme sports are also gaining ground.

Triathlon world championship August 2010

It is a great honor to host the most important triathlon event of 2010.Budapest will close the series after such emblematic cities as Sydney, Madrid and London, and people believe that this event in Budapest along the river Danube will also be a spectacular experience. The Hungarian Triathlon Federation, as the local organizer, would like to prove with world-class event organization and warm hospitality that the choice fell on the right place.

Triathlon is one of the world's most dynamically developing sports, which is also becoming more and more popular in Hungary. Let us hope that through the Budapest Grand Final, the magic of this multi-sport, where endurance, willpower, and challenging one's limits is key, will touch even more life-style athletes, young people and triathlon fans.

Triathlon today is not the sport of the limited professional elite any more, but has become a real leisure sport with a wide appeal where everyone can find individual goals. Next to the elite athletes, who represent the cream of the sport, thousands of age-groupers, juniors and paratriathletes make the palette of competitors colorful. The team races play an important role in the program as well, as they give event partners and sponsors the opportunity to get actively involved. An opportunity to the young duathletes and triathletes is given too - school teams with the best performance at the pre-Grand Final race series will be invited to participate.

The Budapest Grand Final will have one more unique characteristic - it will be the first "green" world-class sport event in Hungary! The comprehensive environmental program which includes selective waste management, rehabilitation of the race venues and environmentally friendly transportation is encompassed. With this initiative, triathlon, as one of the "greenest" sports, would like to call Hungary's and the world's attention to the importance of the role sport plays in protecting the environment. Clean water, fresh air and pollution-free soil are taken under control.

It will be the real triathlon festival where everyone can find the best race, a noble rival and a good friend.

Golf in Budapest

Count Andr?ssy G?za, who held a show on the metropolitan turf in 1902, brought the golf into the public consciousness of Hungary. The first course was built is 1908 at T?tralomnic - at that time it still belonged to Hungary, it was based on the plans of a multiple golf champion Lauber Dezs?.

Since then due to the golf courses being built continuously this became an accessible type of sport at an affordable price. The equipment requires a onetime investment, and renting a golf course is not very expensive either.

In Budapest and its surroundings there can be found a number of distinguished quality golf courses which are equipped with high-level establishments, which provide superb entertainment equally for the lovers of this sport, professionals and amateurs.

Tennis and squash

The lovers of the white sport can choose from countless possibilities if they long for good quality tennis courts in Budapest. It is never late to start playing tennis, even during the summer holiday, or in case of a free weekend who is interested may have the taste of it. Skilled instructors can quickly teach the basic hits to the beginners, they will show the correct hand position, which will protect the disciple from muscle and joint injuries. In order to play tennis it is not necessary to buy the equipment, the racket and balls can be rented almost everywhere, as well as the court.

Squash is an extremely fast game. It is played with a similar racket which is used for tennis and a rubber ball in an indoor four-walled court specially designed for this type of sport, where two players or pairs play against each other. Earlier squash was mentioned as the manager game, because according to the occupied businessmen the stress accumulated during the day may be deduced even after of one hour of playing squash. The number of encampment of squash players in Hungary is approximately 40 thousand, squash is known and loved for over twenty years already, it belongs to the free-time sports, but the competition variation is also popular, with the sponsorship of companies the domestic teams belong to Europe's forefront.

The squash centers which can be found in Budapest are modern and well-equipped establishments, which offer energy drinks and most modern tested nutriment additions in buffets, and many centers, have fitness room as well as a sauna which are at the guests' disposal.

Baths and Aqua parks

Budapest's outdoor water parks and aquaparks are open from May through October. Some of these are excellent programs with children too. The indoor pools are open all year round.

The most popular (and biggest) outdoor pool complex is the Palatinus Bath, which is located on Margaret Island in a beautiful natural environment, while professional swimmers prefer the Haj?s Alfr?d Sports Pool, also on Margaret Island.

Gokarting

Good quality and totally safe, these small four-wheeled vehicles are at their disposal, this form of entertainment is exceptionally popular not only in case of kids but adults also.

Seven serious, safe go-kart circuits can be found in Budapest. Children already from the age of 8, and with a height of 135 centimeters, may try out 100 cm?, 3 LE vehicles, and these ensure a quite fast velocity sensation, and adults use 270 cm? and 12 LE go-karts.

Running

Running can be done anywhere, but it is not a disadvantage, if instead of crowded city centre and polluted air people choose a calmer and a greener environment. The nature is also much more suitable for jogging since the ground in a forest, on a field or in park protects our feet, while on the contrary the stony concrete may cause serious pain with time.

Budapest's most popular running place is the Margaret Island; here a runner track with superb ground was developed specially for the joggers. Quite a few athletic fields can be found in the capital, but these may be used only after a preliminary negotiation, or with a season ticket. If the weather is very grim then people may run in an indoor sports-ground, but according to real gourmets it is a sacrilege, if the wing blows and the rains falls it is not a problem at all since this increases the whirls of pleasure.

The capital offers numberless possibilities to discover our limits, here are some competitions which provide an opportunity to try out our knowledge: Vivicitta City Protecting Jogging, Nike Budapest International Marathon, Plus Budapest International Marathon, Coca Cola Women Running Gala or the Budapest-Wien Super Marathon.
