Budapest Summer Festival 2010An incredibly rich and colorful program schedule was created for this year. The tourists will be indulged with such delicacies as Boris Godunov, which wasn't on stage in Hungary for years. The guests will have a unique experience, since besides the music the scenery of this play will also be of high standard. This production is going to be played only twice in Budapest starring the two greatest artists of the Bolsoj Theatre from Moscow. Naturally, there will be some premi?re productions this season too: such as the musical version of M?r J?kai's novel, Szeg?ny gazdagok (Poor Riches), as well as the latest work of the excellent co-writers, Gy?rgy Szomor and Tibor Mikl?s, the Robin Hood musical, around which we organize an entire Robin festival weekend on Margaret Island's Great Meadow, with an authentic joust, costume show and fencing, where entire families with the young and the old are most welcome. Aida, the musical premi?red here in 2007, and prospering ever since, is going to be performed again in the Margaret Island Open-air Stage, due to high public demand. The world-famous 100-Member Gipsy Orchestra plans an exceptional event on Margaret Island for their 25th anniversary. The violin maestros would like to use this occasion for introducing young musicians born with extraordinary talent. The 100-Member Gipsy Orchestra, consisting of fantastic musicians and first class violinists, wishes to introduce their young gipsy talents and future successors on Margaret Island. A true concert-show with reminiscences in words, theatrical elements, spectacular dance insets and panorama screening will take place at Margaret Island. It is a tribute concert to Freddy Mercury. With this unique and grandiose production, we evoke the singer's key-words "magic and wonder", and the man himself, who passed away 17 years ago but lives amongst us forever through his songs! The creators of the dance production, The Legend of the Sun have, brought a completely original, never seen before world of scene and sound into the repertoire of domestic and foreign dance theatres. The choreographer, G?bor Mih?lyi has mixed the most dynamic, most sweeping motives of Hungarian folk-music and put them on stage with the collaboration of the Hungarian State Folk Dancers (today called as the House of Traditions). The composer of the production, who has travelled widely as a soloist of Riverdance, Nikola Parov, has created a new musical world nourished by East-European folk-music traditions, in which the sounds of saxophone, drums, brasses and violin harmonize perfectly. This folk- and world-music style composition is a medley of dynamics, tradition and mystery. The Legend of the Sun is a fresh, creative dance theatre performance with a 21st century spirit that visualizes - with the special instruments of the arts - the cult of the Sun, its role in our lives, the course of its celestial path, and the connection between this path and the turning points in human life. This year, for the first time, tourists can arrive at the Margaret Island Open-air Stage by boat. The ships, departing from three different river ports - with optional buffet dinner and sightseeing services - will take passengers before the shows to Margaret Island Grand Hotel and Vadaspark stations, and then transport everybody back after the shows. Do not miss this fantastic opportunity. A truly spectacular production during this summer of 2010 is going to take place. Sziget Festival 2010The Sziget festival is the biggest Rock festival in Europe concerning the number of visitors. The reason for that is that the Sziget festival lasts a complete week and not like many other festivals just a long weekend. The spatiality about the Sziget festival is that it is on an island (Sziget = Island). The island is called ?budai Sziget and is the biggest island in Budapest. It is bigger than 70 football pitches and is in the northern part of Budapest. The actual festivities will commence as from August the 11th with complete festival program on all stages. There's a special focus on "Meeting point Europe". The days are far gone that Sziget was an exclusive Hungarian event. Nowadays tens of thousands Europeans come to the Hungarian capital to see over one thousand bands perform on over 40 stages. Rock, dance, world music, punk, electro, funk, blues, traditional music and classical music; there's something to be found for everyone. But Sziget offers more than just music: film, a fairground, art, spirituality, sports, courses, the most diverse restaurant, shops, little bars and teahouses... all of this in the midst of the beautifully lit camping sites. The majority of the international acts perform on the main stage before a 50.000 strong audience. The World music Stage is one of the best programmed stages in its own right, drawing over 15.000 visitors for every performance. At night there are several parties on different locations serving the likes of all partygoers. This year over 400.000 thousand (one third Hungarian) visitors in total are expected over the span of one week. The prices for commodities have hardly risen and a beer will cost just about one-and-a-half euro. A meal goes for 3 to 4 euro (including a wide offering of vegetarian meals!). Although the grounds are huge and the number of camping sites is enormous, the Sziget tickets including camping sell out quickly. What people like about Sziget Festival is that it is not only about music, visitors can discover so many things in different booths. People, companies or whatever offers all kinds of activities for those who want to relax from the music and do something else which is especially interesting for those who are staying on the island. The island offers everything people need from restaurants, cash machines, supermarket and everything else could be needed in this week. But many people take some time and go to the city or just off the island to relax, see Budapest, and shop important things and what so ever. |
